UN Honors Major Radhika Sen as Military Gender Advocate of the Year

The United Nations will recognize Indian Army peacekeeper Major Radhika Sen with the 2023 Military Gender Advocate of the Year award. This award highlights Major Sen's exceptional leadership and commitment to gender equality during her service with the UN Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) from March 2023 to April 2024. Major Sen, who commanded MONUSCO's engagement platoon for the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion, played a crucial role in engaging with conflict-affected communities, particularly women and girls, in the volatile North Kivu region. Her approach, marked by humility, compassion, and dedication, earned the trust of the communities, making a significant impact on the ground. Humanitarian Impact of the Israel-Hamas Conflict and the Rising Influence of the Muslim Brotherhood

The merciless Israel-Hamas battling has been seething on since October 7, 2023, placing a significant part of the locale into turmoil. The viciousness has flipped around the Gaza Strip, making it enormously hard for Palestinians there to get to essential conveniences. The top UN court, the Worldwide Courtroom (ICJ), has requested Israel to "right away" end its tactical activity in Gaza's Rafah, depicting what is happening in the southern city as "sad". Countless regular citizens are protecting in Rafah. The battling ejected on October 7 morning as Hamas aggressors sent off an unexpected assault on Israeli urban communities, killing nearly 1,200 individuals and taking a few others prisoners. Israel's retaliatory strikes, then again, have up until this point guaranteed something like 35,857 lives, according to specialists. Iran prepares final farewell for President Raisi at holy Shiite site

Iran on May 23 prepared to lay late President Ebrahim Raisi to rest at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad, the most important pilgrimage site in Shiite Islam. This final ceremony concludes the processions across Iran seeking to commemorate Raisi and other officials killed in the helicopter crash. However, the mourning rituals did not attract as large crowds as for Revolutionary Guard general Qassem Soleimani in 2020. This could reflect public sentiments after a violent crackdown on protests sparked by Mahsa Amini's death in custody. The government suppressed all dissent and avoided discussing economic troubles or Raisi's role in mass executions during the Iran-Iraq war. In Birjand, Raisi's hometown, thousands gathered in black along the main road as his casket passed by truck. Mourners reached out to touch the casket and leave tokens for a blessing. The truck bore a sign saying "This is the shrine," referencing Imam Reza's burial site. Burial at the shrine is a

Indian-American Lawmakers Advocate for Dialogue on Human Rights in India

Indian-American lawmakers in the US Congress are advocating for a shift in how the US addresses human rights concerns in India. While they acknowledge the importance of raising these issues, they believe a more constructive approach is necessary. Lawmakers like Ro Khanna, co-chair of the Congressional India Caucus, argue that lecturing India is unlikely to be effective.  They point to India's long history of colonialism, which can make the country resistant to outside criticism.  Khanna suggests a more productive approach would be an open dialogue that acknowledges the imperfections in both democracies and explores ways to work together to improve human rights. This perspective is shared by other Indian-American lawmakers, including Pramila Jayapal, Shri Thanedar, and Dr. Ami Bera. Dr. Bera emphasizes the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with India, which he sees as a crucial partner on the world stage. He believes that open communication, rather than condemnation,
