The United Nations will recognize Indian Army peacekeeper Major Radhika Sen with the 2023 Military Gender Advocate of the Year award. This award highlights Major Sen's exceptional leadership and commitment to gender equality during her service with the UN Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) from March 2023 to April 2024. Major Sen, who commanded MONUSCO's engagement platoon for the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion, played a crucial role in engaging with conflict-affected communities, particularly women and girls, in the volatile North Kivu region. Her approach, marked by humility, compassion, and dedication, earned the trust of the communities, making a significant impact on the ground. This recognition comes alongside the posthumous honor for Indian soldier Naik Dhananjay Kumar Singh, who sacrificed his life while serving with MONUSCO. He will be one of the 64 peacekeepers awarded the Dag Hammarskjold medal by UN Secretary-General Antonio Gut
