Israel ‘Spreading Terror’, Lebanon’s PM Tells UN Security Council

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon has once again escalated, drawing the attention of the international community. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati recently addressed the UN Security Council (UNSC) to plead for urgent intervention amid Israel's bombardment of Lebanon, which has resulted in over 620 fatalities in just three days. This situation underscores a complex web of geopolitical tensions, humanitarian crises, and the urgent need for diplomatic engagement. Mikati's heartfelt appeal to the UNSC reflects the dire circumstances facing Lebanon, where citizens grapple with fear and uncertainty as a result of the violence. Mikati's statements highlighted the direct violation of Lebanon's sovereignty by Israeli forces. He pointed out the aerial bombardments, drone attacks, and the looming threat of a ground invasion that have led to a climate of terror among Lebanese civilians. Elon Musk Advocates Overhaul of UN Bodies, Labels India's Exclusion 'Absurd

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has called for a comprehensive restructuring of United Nations bodies and criticized the exclusion of India from the UN Security Council, deeming it 'absurd'. In a post on X, Musk expressed his viewpoint, emphasizing the need for a revision of UN bodies and pointing out the inequity of India, the world's most populous country, not having a permanent seat on the Security Council. He also suggested that Africa collectively should also have a permanent seat, according to his opinion. Musk's comments on X were prompted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressing concern about the absence of an African country in the council. Guterres, in his X post, questioned the acceptance of Africa still lacking a single Permanent Member in the Security Council, advocating for institutions to reflect the realities of today's world rather than those of 80 years ago. He highlighted the upcoming Summit of the Future in September as an opportunity to conside...

The UAE urges the UN to stop using ‘Islamic State’ term when referring to ISIS

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has urged the United Nations (UN) to drop the name "Islamic State" when referring to ISIS during the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting in New York. The UAE argued that terrorists should not be associated with religion. UAE Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative and Chargé d’Affaires, Mohamed Abushahab, said that organizations should not “permit ISIS and other groups to hijack a religion of tolerance and give credence to their claims.” He further added, “There is nothing Islamic about terrorism.” He also said that the UN should focus on preventing the emergence of the next generation of terrorists in the world. UAE has a great interest in the next generation and wants to protect them from terrorism. Underlining that terrorism posed a common threat to peace and security, the UAE reiterated its strong condemnation of terrorist attacks and the recruitment of children to terrorist groups. UAE also condemned the dangers and thr...
