Israel says it’s begun daily pauses in fighting in parts of Gaza to let aid in

The Israeli military began a limited pause in  fighting in three populated areas of Gaza  for 10 hours a day as part of a series of steps that it says would give the United Nations and other aid agencies secure land routes to tackle a deepening hunger crisis. The Israel Defense Forces said it would begin a “tactical pause” in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah and Muwasi, three areas of the territory with large populations, to “increase the scale of humanitarian aid” entering the Gaza Strip. It said the pause would begin every day at 10 a.m. local time, effective Sunday, and continue until further notice. “Whichever path we choose, we will have to continue to allow the entry of minimal humanitarian supplies,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement. Israel said Monday that more than 120 truckloads of food aid were distributed by the U.N. and aid agencies in the Gaza Strip, French news agency AFP reported. The military early Sunday  carried out aid airdr...

US Plan to Privatize Gaza Aid Sparks Outrage — Here’s Why the UN Refuses to Cooperate

The US has unveiled a controversial plan to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza through private companies, bypassing traditional UN channels.  Ambassador Mike Huckabee confirmed that distribution centers, guarded by private security, will provide food and supplies to over a million Palestinians. While the US claims this will prevent Hamas from diverting aid, the UN has refused to participate, calling the scheme a violation of humanitarian principles. With Gaza’s famine crisis worsening, this move could deepen suffering rather than alleviate it. The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has outright rejected the plan, arguing it “weaponizes” aid by placing it under a militarized framework. Jens Laerke, an OCHA spokesman, stated that the proposal clashes with the core values of neutral humanitarian work. Meanwhile, Gaza’s situation grows more dire — food prices have skyrocketed, community kitchens are shutting down, and over 90% of the population is disp...

Egypt’s Bold Ceasefire Proposal: Can It End the Deadly Israel-Hamas Conflict?

Egypt has stepped in with a fresh proposal to revive ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas, hoping to end the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza. The plan aims to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas while providing humanitarian relief to Gaza’s besieged population. The renewed negotiations come at a critical time, as hostilities have escalated following Israel’s unilateral decision to resume military operations last week. With both sides previously unwilling to compromise, the Egyptian mediation effort presents a potential breakthrough, but key challenges remain. The proposal outlines a phased exchange in which Hamas would release five living hostages, including an American-Israeli, in exchange for Israel allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. Additionally, Israel would implement a weekslong pause in its military campaign. As part of the deal, Israel is expected to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in return. While Hamas has reportedly responded positively to the pla...

Israel’s Gaza Aid Blockade: Weaponizing Starvation or Pressuring Hamas?

Israel has faced fierce backlash after halting the entry of food and other vital supplies into Gaza on Sunday. This move, intended to pressure Hamas into accepting a new ceasefire proposal, has sparked accusations of humanitarian violations. Egypt and Qatar, mediators in the ongoing conflict, have condemned Israel for using starvation as a weapon, calling it a breach of international law. The ceasefire’s first phase, which began in January, had allowed a surge of humanitarian aid, temporarily easing the growing hunger crisis in Gaza. However, Israel’s sudden decision to cut off aid has not only reignited tensions but also drawn widespread global criticism. Hamas swiftly condemned Israel’s blockade, labeling it a “war crime and a blatant attack” on the fragile truce. The ceasefire’s second phase, which has yet to commence despite plans to start a month ago, is crucial. It entails the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for an Israeli military withdrawal from G...
