The National Centre of Meteorology reports that the UAE has experienced its wettest month in 27 years. The port station in Fujairah reported 255.2mm of water after two days of nonstop rain, the most in the UAE for the month of July.
Masafi had the second-highest rainfall with 209.7mm, and Fujairah Airport recorded the third-highest rainfall with 187.9mm.
In a statement to Khaleej Times on Thursday, Dr. Ahmed Habib of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said, "We have low pressure coming from India with upper and surface air depression also extending from areas of Pakistan and Iran. On July 25 and 26, the UAE saw the effects of low pressure, notably in the east of the nation.
On July 27, the UAE once more experienced low pressure, and the air was thick with moisture from the Sea of Oman. Convective wet clouds have been strewn throughout the sky in the UAE's eastern mountains. Particularly at Fujairah and Ras-al-Khaimah in the Eastern region of the United Arab Emirates, these clouds are loitering. As a result, locations in the north and east are seeing the presence of these clouds.Emergency operations across UAE after heavy rains flood several areas.#UAE #Rain #امطار #امطار_الامارات

The local influence and the low pressure are now two elements (double effect), he continued. This is causing protracted, heavy rainfall. High rainfall was observed, particularly in Fujairah. This year, substantial rains have fallen in all the places, but Fujairah has witnessed particularly heavy rainfall. Fujairah Port Station recorded 255.2mm of precipitation. The amount of precipitation is the most in 27 years.
Earlier, cars had to wade through water-filled streets as waterfalls rushed down mountainsides.
On Wednesday, during the height of summer, temperatures dropped to lows of 17°C as torrential rains pounded six emirates. Lightning flashed through the dense clouds.
The Cloud Lounge at Khor Fakkan's Al Suhub Rest Area was briefly closed as a result of erratic weather. As heavy rain occurred, stones began to roll down the Al Haray-Khor Fakkan road, prompting the Sharjah Police to close it. Another Covid-19 testing facility with a drive-through was forced to close by the Fujairah Police. The national weather service also noted that these convective clouds' ability to produce rain makes them ideal for cloud seeding.
