The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that he had held an "urgent call" with French President, Emmanuel Macron, after Russian forces' latest attacks on Ukraine.
Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter, “I had an urgent call with Emmanuel Macron. We discussed the strengthening of our air defense, the need for a tough European and international reaction, as well as increased pressure on the Russian Federation. France stands with Ukraine.”
Macron expressed France's commitment to step up military aid to help Ukraine. The two leaders exchanged views on a call after Russia reportedly struck multiple Ukrainian cities during rush hours on Monday.
Russia struck various cities in Ukraine during rush hour on Monday morning, killing 10 civilians and destroying infrastructure. In retaliation for an explosion that damaged a key bridge to Moscow-annexed Crimea, the Russian forces targeted the energy infrastructure in Ukraine. According to Ukraine’s national police service, at least 60 people were injured after Russian forces struck various Ukrainian cities.
The Ukrainian president reportedly said that Russian bombs targeted various cities, including Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia. The Ukrainian military said that Russian forces fired more than 80 missiles on various cities. Russia reportedly launched long-range missile attacks against Ukraine’s energy, military, and communications infrastructure.
Reportedly, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, declared an explosion on the bridge to Crimea to be a terrorist attack by Ukraine. Putin also threatened a “harsh response” to what he termed “terrorist attacks” against Russia. He reportedly said, “If acts of terrorism continue against Russia, we will respond in a very harsh manner.”
European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, also condemned the recent attacks by Russian forces. He also pledged additional military support to Ukraine.
Earlier, Macron announced that he will step up arms supplies to Ukraine. He reportedly said, "We will continue to support Ukraine from the financial, humanitarian, and military perspectives.”
