Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan takes part in India's Voice of Global South Summit

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) took part in the Voice of Global South Summit, organised by India as part of its Presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20).

The summit took place on January 12 and 13, with 10 sessions. The UAE minister participated in the summit via teleconferencing. Various foreign ministers and senior officials participated in the summit from over 120 countries.

During the summit, Sheikh Abdullah reportedly said, “I would like to thank our partners in India for organising this important Summit, which aims at further integrating emerging and developing economies into the G-20 Process.”

The UAE has been invited to participate as a guest country in the upcoming G20 Summit. Sheikh Abdullah thanked India and said, "As a G-20 Guest Country for the third time since 2020, the UAE will continue to prioritise developing countries’ views and challenges.”

At the end of his speech, Sheikh Abdullah said, “As the UAE hosts COP28 (28th session of the Conference of the Parties) in November 2023, it is important to reiterate our commitment to working hand-in-hand with the Indian Presidency and our G-20 partners.”

The UAE is set to host COP28 from 30 November to 12 December 2023. Meanwhile, India holds the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.

Under the Presidency's theme: “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, India focused on the need to fight for survival. India aims to talk about all major international economic issues.

The UAE is set to address challenges related to climate change in the upcoming COP28. The UAE’s policy is to develop a collective policy to combat climate change.

The UAE is reportedly India’s third largest trading partner after the United States (US) and China. Last year, the two countries signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to enhance bilateral trade and investments between the UAE and India.

Last year, the UAE invested around $2 billion to help Hi-Tech companies develop "food parks" in India in order to tackle food insecurity in South Asia and the Middle East regions.

The UAE has also pledged to support India’s energy transition programme, which can generate 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

The UAE also signed an agreement with the US to invest $100 billion in clean energy projects. The UAE and the US also established the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) in order to increase investment in climate-related projects.

Bangladesh Military Expresses Discontent Over Chinese Weapons; Reports 'Sub-Standard' and Faulty Parts

Bangladesh, a traditional buyer of Chinese military equipment, has raised grievances with Beijing regarding the delivery of defective components and technical malfunctions in its imported military hardware. This issue is not unique to Bangladesh, as other nations like Myanmar have also encountered problems with Chinese fighter jets, according to an ET report. Experts in the Chinese defense industry argue that Beijing lacks the expertise to manufacture highly sophisticated military hardware and is not yet considered a top-tier producer of modern defense equipment. They claim that much of China's weapon systems are based on outdated technology copied from the West. Developing countries often opt for Chinese weapons due to their lower cost compared to similar systems from Western countries. China sells arms through state-run export organizations like the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), NORINCO, and CVIC. Sources familiar with the matter told ET that the Bangladesh mil
