UAE team rescues Syrian family trapped under earthquake rubble

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) search and rescue teams have rescued a Syrian family of four from the rubble in Turkey after powerful earthquakes rocked the region on Monday.

The UAE’s Operation Gallant Knight/2 recovered a mother, her son and two daughters, who were trapped under the rubble. Emirati search and rescue teams took almost five hours to complete the process and rescue the injured family. They were transferred to a hospital in Turkey for treatment.

Under the directives of the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence of the UAE launched the Gallant Knight / 2 operation in order to help earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE, also directed  $13.6 million in humanitarian aid to Syria. The UAE also sent search and rescue teams, urgent relief and emergency aid to Syria.

The UAE President also ordered the provision of $100 million in humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria. The UAE allocated US$50 million each for Turkey and Syria in order to help those impacted by the earthquake.

The UAE leaders also offered their condolences to Turkey and Syria. The UAE leaders also pledged to offer assistance to both nations.

A UAE field hospital will also operate in Turkey’s Hatay province to take care of earthquake victims. Turkey’s ambassador to the UAE revealed that one field hospital that the UAE sent would go to Hatay. 

The UAE sent cargo planes to Turkey and Syria, carrying search and rescue teams and medical equipment, as part of the country’s Gallant Knight 2 operation.

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, declared a state of emergency in 10 worst-hit provinces in Turkey for the next three months.

So-called Israeli safe zones, including Al-Mawasi in Khan Younis, are routinely attacked despite the army forcing Palestinians to move to those areas.
