CCTV footage showed that the youngster was approached in public by a man, identified by authorities as 20-year-old Sahil Khan, who stabbed the teenage girl more than 30 times and struck her with a concrete slab.

The assault was witnessed by several people. Reportedly, one man attempted to interfere but he was forcefully spurned by the assailant, nothing further was done to stop him. No one alerted the police, and her body stayed in the alleyway for 30 minutes after the murder until it was discovered by a police informant.

According to authorities in Delhi, Khan was in a relationship with a teenage girl. He wanted to kill her when she attempted to end the relationship. He allegedly followed her from the market to the dark alley, where he assaulted her with a knife he had purchased two weeks before.

A police officer said, “Sahil told us she humiliated him and passed objectionable comments about their relationship. This angered him and he decided to eliminate her.”

Delhi’s chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, wrote on Twitter, “A minor girl is brutally murdered openly in Delhi. This is very sad and unfortunate.”

Swati Maliwal, from the Delhi Commission for Women, expressed concern about the safety of women in India. She said that Delhi had become “extremely unsafe” for girls and women. She further said, “There were so many people when the tragic incident took place, but no one helped the girl.”

According to national data, the problem of violence against women in India has increased in recent months. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, there was a 40% spike in crimes against women between 2020 and 2021, making Delhi the most dangerous city for women in India.
