Tech billionaire and Twitter owner Elon Musk took a jibe at the photo-sharing app Instagram, the team behind Meta's next text-based platform, Threads.
Just hours after the launch of Twitter's greatest opponent, Threads, Elon Musk responded. In response to a tweet that showed a 2018 email addressed to former Twitter owner Juleanna Glover regarding Elon Musk deleting the Instagram app, he stated his displeasure with the app.
Musk said that it is better to face strangers on his own platform while referring to mental health specialists commonly describing Instagram as a site that encourages social media users to only submit 'flawless photographs' that create a false sense of reality.
Musk wrote on Twitter, “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram.”
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, also returned to Twitter after years. He posted a picture of the famous Spiderman meme in an apparent reference to the similarities between Meta’s Threads and the micro-blogging site Twitter.
Threads witnessed over 10 million sign-ups within the first few hours of its launch, according to the company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Gordon Ramsay, and Hugh Jackman joined Threads. Reportedly, The Washington Post and The Economist also joined the new app.
Threads is now available in 100 countries on Apple and Android app stores, with no adverts for now. However, the release of the app in Europe has been postponed due to data protection concerns.
Meta and Threads have their detractors, too, for how it handles personal data, which is important for tailored adverts that help generate revenue.
Accounts on Threads is linked to Instagram users’ accounts. According to Meta, Threads users can "easily share their Threads post to their Instagram story.” People can post text, links, photos, and videos.
