Breaking Bad actor Mark Margolis dies at 83

Mark Margolis, a popular American actor who was known for portraying Hector Salamanca in an American drama Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has died aged 83, his family said.

He died at a hospital in New York, the United States, on Thursday. His family revealed the news on Friday. Mark Margolis, who was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2012 for his performance in Breaking Bad, was admitted at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City following a short illness. His son, actor and Knitting Factory Entertainment CEO Morgan Margolis as well as his wife were present at the hospital. 

Bryan Cranston, an American actor, producer, and director who is best known for portraying Walter White in Breaking Bad, expressed sadness over Mark Margolis’ death. He wrote on Instagram: "I am very saddened today to learn of a friend's passing. Mark Margolis was a really good actor and a lovely human being. Fun and engaging off the set, and (in the case of Breaking Bad and Your Honor) intimidating and frightening on set."

Bob Odenkirk, an American actor and filmmaker who is best known for his role as Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad, also expressed grief. He called Mark Margolis a "powerful screen presence.”

Mark Margolis, who once described himself as a “journeyman actor”, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s largest city, in 1939. He moved to New York, the US, to pursue his acting career. He began his acting career on stage. In his career, he had acted in more than 60 films. He played supporting roles in famous films like Scarface, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Wrestler and Black Swan, as well as the HBO series Oz. 

He became famous for his portrayal of Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. In the drama, Hector was a former drug agent who worked for Don Eladio.

Israel issues latest forced evacuation order in areas in Khan Younis

  The Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, has issued the latest forced evacuation order for civilians living in nine areas in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. Adraee said that the army was expanding its operation and “intensifying sudden and concentrated firepower”. The spokesperson called on residents to evacuate westward. So-called Israeli safe zones, including Al-Mawasi in Khan Younis, are routinely attacked despite the army forcing Palestinians to move to those areas.

UAE initiates extensive CAR T-cell treatment in the region
