Russian President Putin Commends PM Modi's Unyielding Stance on India's National Interests

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, applauding his resilience and asserting that Modi cannot be coerced into decisions contrary to India's interests. During his address at the 14th VTB Investment Forum Russia Calling, Putin commended Modi's robust approach to safeguarding national interests, stating that he cannot imagine Modi being intimidated or compelled to take actions against India's well-being.

Putin highlighted the progressive development of bilateral relations between Russia and India in various domains. He emphasized that PM Modi's policy serves as the primary guarantor for the strong ties between the two nations. Discussing the potential for increased bilateral trade, Putin acknowledged the significant growth in trade turnover, citing last year's $35 billion and the first half of the current year reaching $33.5 billion. He acknowledged India's strategic approach to leveraging discounts on Russian energy resources and suggested exploring additional opportunities beyond this.

Addressing the global economic landscape, Putin noted the substantial economic power of India, ranking third in the world by purchasing power parity and economic volume, following China and the United States. He expressed the need to further enhance trade with India, comparing it to the robust trade relationship with China.

Putin also mentioned his intention to discuss the North-South Corridor with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and highlighted India's interest in implementing such routes. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of developing the Northern Sea Route as a promising logistics direction. Putin called for the strengthening of financial infrastructure and the use of national currencies in mutual settlements, urging greater attention to investments and investment flows.
