249-year jail: ’World’s worst animal abuser’ Adam Britton gets maximum punishment; check what he has done
Crocodile expert Adam Britton faces a potential 249-year jail sentence in Australia after being charged with raping, torturing, and killing over forty dogs, as reported by The Mirror. The British zoologist, labeled as the ‘world's worst animal abuser,’ broke down in court before the announcement of his punishment.
Britton faces 60 horrific charges related to animal sexual abuse in a shipping container "torture room" last year, according to The Sun.
Born in West Yorkshire in 1971, Britton pursued a degree in zoology from the University of Leeds and later completed his PhD from the University of Bristol. He was charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty and sexual abuse while working as a senior researcher at Charles Darwin University. Additionally, he faces four counts of possessing and transmitting child abuse material and 37 counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
During the hearing, Britton's defense team argued that he had been affected by “paraphilia” during the two-year period of his criminal activities, The Sun reported.
Paraphilia, as defined by WebMD, is an abnormal sexual behavior characterized by recurring intense sexual fantasies and urges involving unusual objects, activities, or situations. These behaviors are generally not considered sexually arousing by others and can lead to significant distress and serious social and legal consequences.
Britton sniffled and burst into tears when the condition was mentioned in court, after which the case was adjourned pending a further psychiatric report until August 8, according to The Sun.
