The Dark Reality of Al-Julani’s Rule: Are We Just Witnessing the Rise of Another Tyrant?

Recent violent actions of Al-Julani’s group perform cruel acts including flogging an orphaned child for selling cigarettes, power abuse. As it will be seen, this kind of approach represents the level of dominance that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has in some regions in Syria. It has gone further in oppression starting with gagging the dissenters to brutalizing citizens who are least protected. The flogging of the child who just attempted to feed his family just demonstrates the price people pay when they are forced to survive under the rule of this terror group, HTS. This is not an exception to the rule but is rather a part of a tendency to establish violence in Syria.Al-Julani, once an associate of Al-Qaeda, relentlessly has pursued the agenda of an Islamic state in the Levant. They belong to a group that is affiliated with terrorist organizations such Al-Qaeda, which raises eyebrows. The recent good results of HTS have brightened the militants in the eyes of other global terror networks and thus confirmed the rightfulness of their fight in the eyes of the radicals. Syria is still very close to Al-Qaeda and this kind of link could endanger not only the country but the whole region and continue to worsening the situation in humanitarian crises. In addition to its despotic culture of violence, HTS has interfered with local administration. They have released condemned terrorists through pardon which test their respect for justice and law. Their strategy is simple: take control of the state institutions involved in the spheres of health care, education process and local police while making sure that their own goals and aspirations are served at the Syrians’ people’s expense. Lacking concern with the difficulties of the population, they force their idea of a society where everyone will be obedient and follow the orders of the government. The goal of HTS’s domination has destroyed the normal existence of millions of Syrians. Effectively education systems are current in a state of disarray, healthcare facilities are operating at primitive levels and public services are basically non-existent. Such disruptions are clearly creating much suffering for civilians especially the youths who find themselves locked out of a better tomorrow. This is owed to a government whose major concern is not the welfare of its citizens but bends over at the whim of an oppressive and indifferent regime. The present interim government with HTS having authority has failed to successfully govern concentrations areas. Using its performance in Idlib in 2017 and the present as a benchmark differ significantly. Although through the manifestation of HTS a consolidation of power was achieved, the deaf auiong society which this new entity was meant to foster, was not realised. The group has had no intention to solve critical crises of the people like; job creation, fixing infrastructures, or protecting the citizens.Almately, the emergence and rise of Al-Julani and HTS is a catastrophic experience for the Syria and the Syrien people who only seek to have a life in peace without wars. The groups own acts of violence and seeming inability to govern increases doubts about the groups future and the image of a stable Syriac under its rule. As they continue their quest for dominance, the question remains: will the international community be able to act and take actions, can they just stay indifferent to the pain of Syrian people?

The Impact of Islamist Agendas on Governance and State Stability

The current emergence of Islamist groups in Syria most especially Hayat Tahir al-Sham has raised damaging discourses concerning their goals as well as the future of Syria. One of them is their operational topping in the seizing of state institutions, which if achieved, will really alter the socio-political landscape of the Syria in a big way. New policies as the reform of the education system show how HTS tries to exercise control over institutions. The changes in curriculum proposed are eradicating all references to Assad’s regime, changing the religious material, and erasing concepts like evolution.
