Diplomatic ties between India and the UAE continues to grow

 The diplomatic ties between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have widened in recent years. The relations between both countries were reclaimed again on 17 August 2020. The scheduled Joint Commission Meeting was held between both countries despite the limitations created by the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The bilateral summit was held between India and the UAE to reflect and build on their diplomatic ties. In 2020, India and UAE discussed the strategies to defeat the Covid-19. The bilateral cooperation between them helped to control the situation at that time. 

India and the UAE's role during the Covid-19 pandemic

India and the UAE played a major role at the international level during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai, with the help of the UAE government, provided relief to the Indian community during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. 

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took a step to provide medical assistance to some of its international partners. India and the UAE strengthened bilateral engagements in the health and medicine sectors during the pandemic. 

The UAE’s role in reducing conflicts and confronting extremism

The UAE condemns terrorism and extremism and it supports international alliances to eradicate extremist and terrorist groups in the Middle East. Over the past few years, the UAE has also taken proactive measures to counter the financing of terrorism. In 2021, the UAE’s Ministry of Community Development established a joint mechanism with the UAE Financial Intelligence Unit to combat money laundering and financing terrorist groups. 

Relations between Narendra Modi and Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan 

In 2020, Narendra Modi and UAE’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed measures to boost cultural ties between India and the UAE. In 2022, both leaders held a virtual summit and expressed deep satisfaction with the continuous growth in bilateral relations in all sectors between the two countries.

India and UAE also called for peace in the Russia-Ukraine crisis. The UAE also demanded that Russia “immediately” withdraw troops from Ukraine.
