The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sent a second batch of humanitarian aid to flood-hit Pakistan. The Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence has continued humanitarian operations in Pakistan through an air bridge, transferring humanitarian aid to the flood victims.
On 30 August, two additional planes, the fifth in the sequence, had flown to the affected people in Pakistan, carrying tons of food, medical and pharmaceutical supplies, and shelter. They reached Islamabad loaded with tents.
The humanitarian aid was dispatched as per the directives of the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to support flood-hit Pakistan.
According to the Emirates news agency WAM, the provision of UAE aid falls under Article No.9 of the 'UAE’s Principles of the 50', which considers foreign humanitarian aid an integral part of the UAE’s ethical commitment toward friendly countries.
His Highness also reiterated the UAE’s full support to Pakistan in overcoming the crisis caused by torrential rains and floods. He also offered condolences to the flood victims.
Earlier, the UAE President called Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif. His Highness assured his all-out support in relief and rehabilitation for flood victims. He also wished a speedy recovery for the injured people in Pakistan.
This week, the UAE’s president ordered urgent aid to Pakistan. He also ordered the provision of all humanitarian relief services to the displaced people in Pakistan. The UAE also sent around 3,000 tonnes of food and medical and pharmaceutical supplies to flood victims in Pakistan.
Reportedly, over 33 million people have been displaced in Pakistan due to the ongoing crisis. The floods badly destroyed crops in the country. Pakistan’s PM has described the flood as the worst in Pakistan’s history.
The United Nations also launched a formal $160 million appeal on Tuesday to fund emergency aid.
