Dubai Cares reviews achievements in 2022, gears up for COP28

Dubai Cares, a global humanitarian organisation located in the UAE that supports education, has evaluated its accomplishments in 2022 in honour of International Day of Education as it gears up for its participation as Education Partner for COP28 (January 24).

The civil society organisation, which is connected to the UN Department of Global Communications, made considerable advancements in the field of education last year.

The Framework for Global Education Transformation, developed by Dubai Cares as part of Expo 2020 Dubai, was unveiled at the World Government Summit 2022. The Framework was heavily cited in National Consultation Reports outlining individual nations' plans for transforming education. It was used as a guiding tool for countries during the Transforming Education Summit (TES) National Consultations, which were held in conjunction with the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Through its inclusion in the Discussion Paper for TES Action Track 2 on "Learning and skills for life, work, and sustainable development," it also influenced international conversations and suggested solutions for education transformation.

Additionally, at TES, which was held in conjunction with the 77th UN General Assembly, Dubai Cares and the Education Commission published the report Rewiring Education for People and Planet.

The Report summarises the most important suggestions for rewiring education from the discussions and insights shared at the RewirEd Summit at Expo 2020 Dubai, and it provides six specific "win-win" solutions that encourage a cross-sectoral ecosystem approach to think and act for transformational education outcomes and to further achieve progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dubai Cares also emphasised the significance of the education sector's role in combating climate change through its participation at COP27, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and through its advocacy for the inclusion of education as a necessary and permanent pillar in all future COP agendas to deliver on the promise of a sustainable and human future for all. The organisation emphasised the importance of combining education and climate in national agendas to accomplish global education reform through its high-level interventions.

Additionally, as a significant collaborator in the creation of the international ECD agenda, Dubai Cares highlighted its ongoing commitment to promoting and prioritising Early Childhood Development (ECD) at the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education.

The organisation took part in a number of high-level seminars and meetings at the event, which was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in November. The Dubai Declaration on Early Childhood Development, which was released by Dubai Cares in collaboration with UNICEF and MoFAIC, served as one of its crucial building blocks. The event culminated with the introduction of the Tashkent Declaration on Early Childhood Care and Education.

Additionally, the Dubai Cares pavilion finished its participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, drawing 246,720 visitors over a six-month span of all ages and countries.

Education has always been the cornerstone of human growth and prosperity, said Dr Tariq Al Gurg, CEO and Vice-Chairman of Dubai Cares, in response to the organization's accomplishments in 2022. There has never been a more pressing need for education in addressing the several interrelated and complicated issues that humanity is currently experiencing.

The central message of Dubai Cares to the world across all of our engagements in 2022, he continued, has been this. More than ever, they must understand that education is the common thread that runs through all of our development objectives for people and the planet and serves as the connecting link among the SDGs. As time goes on, Dubai Cares will keep arguing that a reformed educational ecosystem may fundamentally alter how our communities and economy evolve.

Additionally, by serving as a roadmap for the Transforming Education Summit's Action Track 4 on "Digital Learning and Transformation," the RewirEd Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education, which was unveiled by Dubai Cares and UNESCO during the RewirEd Summit at Expo 2020 Dubai, has significantly shaped plans and solutions for digital transformation. Since the Declaration's debut, efforts have been made to establish it as the cornerstone of collaboration, and Dubai Cares is currently taking part in conversations with UNESCO and other stakeholders for its activation, which is set to begin in 2023.

Every year on October 16, World Food Day, Dubai Cares and bestselling author Flavel Monteiro established the "Dine. Feed. Educate" project to generate money for the education of disadvantaged children throughout the world.

With earnings going to Dubai Cares' school feeding programmes, the initiative gave members of the UAE community the chance to sample seven distinctive dishes created by seven prominent chefs from seven restaurants across the nation.

In September 2022, Dubai Cares, Emirates Red Crescent, and Sharjah Charity International, working closely with the UAE's Ministry of Community Development (MoCD) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) and with the support of nine other UAE humanitarian organisations, launched the "We Stand Together" volunteering initiative.

The project, which was simultaneously held in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, saw hundreds of volunteers from all seven emirates pack 1,200 tonnes of food, health, and hygiene supplies, including 30,000 meal kits, to help the afflicted individuals in need.

Additionally, Contribute Emirates, a local volunteering programme of the organisation that mobilises the UAE community all year to volunteer their time in favour of the educational cause, was held three times by Dubai Cares.

At three schools, namely Al Tafawq School in Sharjah, National Charity School for Boys in Dubai, and National Charity Private School - Girls in Nasiriyah, Sharjah, hundreds of volunteers improved the learning environment as part of the community engagement programme. Dubai Cares also provided necessary anti-bacterial furnishings to Senses Residential and Day Care for Special Needs in order to enhance the well-being and security of the students.
