The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has delivered the second batch of electricity generators to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, to provide energy to Ukrainian homes.
A UAE aid plane arrived in Poland on Friday with the aim of alleviating the tough living conditions of Ukrainian families affected by the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
Last month, the UAE announced plans to send 2,500 household electricity generators, each with a power output of between 3.5 and 8 kilowatts, to Ukraine. Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, the Minister of State for International Cooperation, said that the UAE wanted to mitigate the suffering of families in Ukraine.
The first batch of 1,200 generators was delivered to the UAE in December. The UAE authorities reportedly said that they would transfer the remaining generators by January 2023. With the remaining generators, the UAE aims to help Ukrainian cities where the war-damaged energy infrastructure and power plants, leaving many homes without electricity. The power generator would help people in the country survive the harsh winter season. The war destroyed homes and knocked out power in some Ukrainian cities.
The aid was part of the $100 million humanitarian relief aid allocated by the UAE to Ukraine in order to help people in the war-ravaged country.
The UAE agreed to help Ukrainians in response to the United Nations Ukraine Flash Appeal and the Ukraine Situation Regional Refugee Response. The UAE’s planes delivered 360 tonnes of food supplies, medical aid, and ambulances for Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Moldova, and Bulgaria.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, has repeatedly pledged to help Ukrainians. He also held a call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, in October 2022. Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE would do everything to mitigate the suffering of Ukrainians.
