The organisation of COP28, according to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, demonstrates the UAE's commitment to bringing together countries and institutions from around the world to come up with solutions for pressing global problems.

The Crown Prince of Dubai stated that the UAE is looking forward to hosting a dialogue on environmental issues at COP28 that will have a lasting impact on global sustainability and the future of humanity while presiding over a meeting of the higher committee in charge of overseeing preparations for the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP28 UAE) held at Expo City Dubai.

According to him, "COP28 promises to open new routes to resolving global environmental and climate-related concerns, consistent with the UAE's success in hosting large global events."

To ensure the success of COP28, Sheikh Hamdan emphasised the significance of regional and national government bodies cooperating as a single team.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed received updates on the COP28 Presidency's global listening tour, as well as on the preparations and community engagement initiatives made in the run-up to the climate conference, which will take place at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023. Dr Sultan Al Jaber is the COP28 President-Designate and Vice-Chairman of the higher committee.

The debate at the earlier upper committee meeting, which was presided over by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Head of the UAE Higher Committee for COP28, was expanded upon at the meeting.

On the first leg of our listening tour, the COP28 Presidency is actively consulting and listening to all stakeholders, according to Dr Al Jaber, in order to coordinate their efforts in co-creating concrete solutions for mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, and climate financing.

In order to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, he said, "this is crucial to COP28's vision for an open, transparent, and inclusive process that builds on previous climate progress, enhances the buy-in of diverse stakeholders, and advances ground-breaking outcomes, solutions, and partnerships."

Dr Al Jaber emphasised that the success of COP28 depends on uniting regional, national, and international efforts in a coordinated drive towards meaningful climate action and making sure that all facets of society, from businesses and non-governmental organisations to youth, women, and civil society, have a constructive role to play both before and during the climate summit.

Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development and COP28 Youth Climate Champion emphasised initiatives made to speed up local and international youth participation and give young people's opinions, needs, and talents priority on the global climate agenda.

The UAE's commitment to ambitious national climate action that is in line with COP28's ambition for transformative change and the UAE's 2023 theme of "Year of Sustainability" was reaffirmed by the Minister of Climate Change and Environment.
