BRICS Meet Likely In June, All Leaders Likely To Attend The Meet

The Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) leaders' meeting is likely to be held at the end of June. India has agreed to attend a virtual summit of leaders of the BRICS. All the leaders are likely to attend the meeting.

BRICS is the acronym used for five major emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa ranked among the world's fastest-growing emerging economies for years. The BRICS meeting will see Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same platform as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and leaders of Brazil and South Africa for the first time since the Russia-Ukraine war began.

India hosted last year’s BRICS summit, which was also held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This time, China will host the BRICS summit. This is the first summit hosted by China since tensions broke out at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) due to the transgressions of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in April 2020.

Ahead of this year’s summit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Delhi, the capital of India, last month to normalize ties with India. He visited India for the first time since the LAC stand-off began between China and India

Reportedly, a number of other preparatory meetings hosted for the BRICS summit are underway.  On Tuesday, counter-terrorism officials will meet to discuss “targeted Financial Sanctions Related to Terrorism and Terrorist Financing” during a session.

Earlier, MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) Secretary for Multilateral and Economic Relations Dammu Ravi, met with Sherpas of five countries virtually on April 12 and 13 to discuss the dates and format of the meetings. They expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.

Reportedly, the leaders discussed the agenda for the summit. The BRICS summit is expected to include the Ukraine-Russia conflict, financial mechanisms to deal with economic sanctions against Russia, and cooperation against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bangladesh Military Expresses Discontent Over Chinese Weapons; Reports 'Sub-Standard' and Faulty Parts

Bangladesh, a traditional buyer of Chinese military equipment, has raised grievances with Beijing regarding the delivery of defective components and technical malfunctions in its imported military hardware. This issue is not unique to Bangladesh, as other nations like Myanmar have also encountered problems with Chinese fighter jets, according to an ET report. Experts in the Chinese defense industry argue that Beijing lacks the expertise to manufacture highly sophisticated military hardware and is not yet considered a top-tier producer of modern defense equipment. They claim that much of China's weapon systems are based on outdated technology copied from the West. Developing countries often opt for Chinese weapons due to their lower cost compared to similar systems from Western countries. China sells arms through state-run export organizations like the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), NORINCO, and CVIC. Sources familiar with the matter told ET that the Bangladesh mil
