Shashi Tharoor files nomination for Congress President poll

 Shashi Tharoor, a prominent Congressman, and MP submitted his application for the position of Congress President on Friday at the AICC office in Delhi.

"We have observed that the demonetization, historical unemployment, and inflation are not actually functioning correctly in our country. After submitting his nomination, senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor declared that the party should be the one to bring about change.

"The nomination papers I filed show the incredibly broad variety of support given to me willingly by party workers throughout India. 50 signs and 5 forms have been submitted. The sixth form, which will bring the total to 60 (signs), is about to be submitted before 3 o'clock, he continued.

The party members will select their new leader on October 17, and the decision will be made public two days later. Mallikarjun Kharge is now the other front-runner after Digvijay Singh and Ashok Gehlot withdrew from the race. Jharkhand Congress leader KN Tripathi also submits his nomination for the Congress President race earlier in the day.

Digvijaya Singh declared a day after Kharge's declaration that he would back Kharge, in contrast to Ashok Gehlot, who withdrew from the race following the Rajasthan issue and had his supporters demonstrate amid rumors that Sachin Pilot would likely succeed him.
