Mohammed bin Zayed's contribution to putting an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war

The meeting between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan and Vladimir Putin, presidents of the UAE and Russia, which took place on Tuesday in St. Petersburg, marked the start of Emirati mediation in the Ukraine war. The immediate objective of this mediation is to ensure that the conflict de-escalates as the first step toward a long-term diplomatic solution.

According to analysts, Emirati mediation is likely to be perceived as sincere because Abu Dhabi has so far refrained from pledging loyalty to any of the opposing parties.

They emphasise how fascinating this situation is made the more so by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed's ongoing cordial relationships with the combatants and desire to actively take part in the mediation process.

As the conflict threatens civilians and nuclear installations and seems to be getting out of hand, the world's capitals are likely to back the Emirati strategy.

Following his meeting with Putin, Sheikh Mohammed posted on Twitter, "We discussed numerous subjects of mutual concern, including the Ukraine problem and the significance of participating in the conversation to calm tensions and come to a diplomatic solution."

According to the UAE's foreign ministry before the meeting, the purpose of the trip was to help identify "effective political solutions" to the Ukrainian issue.

The UAE's goal to "achieve positive results for military de-escalation, decrease humanitarian effects, and seek a diplomatic settlement to enhance international peace and security" was stressed, the ministry said.

Sheikh Mohammed's actions as a mediator were appreciated by Putin, who noted that they helped to settle some "extremely difficult humanitarian situations" in Ukraine.

"I'm aware of your concern about the current state of affairs and your willingness to assist in resolving all difficult topics, including the ongoing crisis in Ukraine," Putin said.

Putin is inclined to support the UAE's position within OPEC+ at the conference.

Abu Dhabi has avoided using confrontational language and said that actions made by OPEC+ will only help market stability.

In addition, we are actively engaging in OPEC+, Putin told Sheikh Mohammed. Despite the fact that I am aware of your viewpoint, rest assured that none of our choices or actions is made with the goal of offending anyone.

In order to create a balance between supply and demand, he stated, "Our efforts are meant to restore stability to the world's energy markets so that both energy resource users and producers, as well as suppliers to those markets, feel secure and assured."

While aiming to stay out of the sanctions put in place by the US and other Western allies in reaction to Moscow's activities in Ukraine and its neighbour, the United Arab Emirates has maintained close economic ties with Russia.

The UAE has been a focal point for negotiations to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine since it began, especially when it was a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and had close ties to nations like Russia, the US, and Europe.

The festival of Diwali, often referred to as the "Festival of Lights," is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor across India. While the tradition of lighting lamps and bursting firecrackers has been an integral part of the festivities, concerns over air pollution and its adverse effects on public health have prompted authorities to regulate the use of fireworks.
