Iran appoints first U.A.E. ambassador since 2016

The Islamic Republic of Iran has appointed its first ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 2016, as relations between Gulf states and Iran have improved.

Reza Ameri, who served as the director general of the Iranian expatriates' office in the Foreign Ministry, has been appointed an ambassador to the UAE.

In August 2022, the UAE improved its relations with Iran. The UAE also announced the return of its ambassador to Tehran.

The relationship between the UAE and Iran was affected after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran in 2016. The animosity between Iran and Saudi Arabia affected the stability of other Gulf states. In 2016, the relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia was affected after Iranian protesters stormed the Saudi Arabia embassy in Tehran, the capital of Iran, following Riyadh’s execution of a prominent Shiite cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr. Subsequently, the UAE downgraded relations with Iran.

However, last month, Saudi Arabia and Iran resumed their diplomatic relations under a deal brokered by China. The two countries agreed to re-establish relations and to re-open embassies in the coming months. China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran issued a trilateral statement, agreeing to strengthen international and regional peace and security.

Reportedly, Saudi Arabia and Iranian officials will meet in Beijing, the capital of China, on Thursday. The meeting comes following their diplomatic rapprochement amid a China-brokered deal.

World leaders lauded the deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), appreciated the China-brokered deal. Catherine Colonna, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, also welcomed the agreement.

Kuwait and Bahrain expressed hope that the agreement would help to resolve all regional conflicts. The United States and China also supported the initiative.

The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia also held a phone conversation.

It reaffirmed its commitment to defending its sovereignty and people through all means permitted under international law.

Netanyahu’s Shocking Gaza Plan: ‘We Will Take Control of ALL of Gaza’ — But At What Cost?

As Israeli forces intensify their offensive, Netanyahu vows total control of Gaza — but the humanitarian crisis is reaching a breaking point. Will the world stand by and watch? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel will “take control of all” of the Gaza Strip, signaling an unprecedented escalation in the ongoing conflict. In a video posted to Telegram, Netanyahu emphasized that military operations are advancing rapidly, with no intention of backing down. “The fighting is intense, and we are making progress,” he said, framing the offensive as necessary for Israel’s long-term security. But as international pressure mounts, his government is walking a tightrope between military dominance and global condemnation. The Israeli military has ordered mass evacuations in southern Gaza, warning residents of Khan Yunis and surrounding areas to flee immediately ahead of a devastating assault. Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee described the coming attack as ...

Israel issues latest forced evacuation order in areas in Khan Younis

The Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, has issued the latest forced evacuation order for civilians living in nine areas in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. Adraee said that the army was expanding its operation and “intensifying sudden and concentrated firepower”. The spokesperson called on residents to evacuate westward. So-called Israeli safe zones, including Al-Mawasi in Khan Younis, are routinely attacked despite the army forcing Palestinians to move to those areas.
