Sheikh Mohamed appoints Al Mazrouei as the new Armed Forces Chief of Staff

 Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the third president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the ruler of Abu Dhabi, has appointed Staff Lt Gen Issa Al Mazrouei as Chief of Staff of the country’s Armed Forces.

Sheikh Mohamed also issued a Federal Decree on Tuesday appointing Staff Lt Gen Issa Al Mazrouei as Chief of Staff and Hamad Al Rumaithi as a Military Affairs Adviser to the UAE President.

Earlier, Lt Gen Al Mazrouei served as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and Lt Gen Al Rumaithi served as Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces. Last year, Al Rumaithi was honoured with the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Military Order for his contribution to the Armed Forces. The late President, Sheikh Khalifa, honoured him in May 2022.

While speaking to mark the 46th Armed Forces Unification Day on May 6 2022, the late President of the UAE appreciated the contribution of Lt Gen Al Rumaithi. Sheikh Khalifa also paid tribute to those who served the nation. 

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed along with other UAE leaders and military chiefs also paid tribute to the UAE Armed Forces. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid lauded the efforts of the military chiefs in the UAE Armed Forces. 

During the event, Lt Gen Hamad Al Rumaithi praised the UAE military and paid tribute to those who fell in the line of duty. He reportedly said, “We are honoured to commemorate the martyrs of the UAE Armed Forces.”

His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi, the UAE Minister of State for Defence Affairs, also lauded the UAE military and said that the UAE Armed Forces was ready to confront all security threats.

The UAE Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, launched the Armed Forces Unification Day on May 6, 1976.
